Morale boost whilst painting a long term army project - How my Slann/Lizardman army has grown

Hi All, long time no post, particularly as far as this project has progressed. My original Slann/lizardman army post was back in June 2019, just before BOYL and whilst it's been slow progress over the intervening period, those of you who are members of the various oldhammer fce book groups will know I've been busy of the last three months spreading a considerable amount of paint over my C series Slann, lizardmen and adding a few newer figures to my collection to bring them to some form of near completion(Who ever finishes an army?). So in an effort to keep up the pace, here's a video and a few pictures of the 'new' stuff mixed in with the old.

 Here's the mage priest surrounded by his guard, matching in the newly painted figures was trick given the original paint work is a few years old.

Next up are the original Palace guard, no new figures here, but the picture shows them off a treat.

Here are the Lizardmen for regiments, lots of new additions to these units.

Now for one of my fravorite units Lizardmen coldone riders, I've learnt with this unit that broken figures are an opportunity to add a little extra to the original mono-pose figures.

Next up are the slaves all I've added here are a couple of Slann officers to lead (I've still to paint the slave handlers).

Here are the specialists - those new  figures I've added to play later editions of Warhammer.

Almost there, heres the Slann coldone riders, no new stuff here, but to complete the post here they are.

June brings the end of the OWAC, show here's a few pictures of my new army

 Where did the time go, looking back it seemed to drag on forever, now it just feels that wieght has been lifted and I can look back and see the results of my efforts and looking forward to putting these on a table for a game to see how they play.

First month, saw me start off with a few pilgrims, all figures from the Celtos range via Brigade Models

Second month, I've seen what others did in January, let me take the brake off and push myself a bit further with a few amazon/greek types from Foundry which I think are no longer in production and a selection of masked females to details of which I've forgotten, sorry.

 Month three, is when I really went to town, following Mr Beales heroic efforts with his Chaos horde in month two the chase was on, so with holiday due, bad weather and having to stay home I splashed a bit of paint over this little lot - various manufacturers and age of figures from C series amazons, grenadier to Foundry and others.

 Month four saw me keep up the pressure and dab a little paint over a few C series Amazons and a Grenadier giantess.

Month five, I had intended to take a month off but Mr Beale was still set a hard pace so I pushed on with these girls! Another grenadier collossal lord, giantess, a couple of female ogres origin unknown, Shadow forge Centuars and grenadiers cat riders.

Month six, Saw me splosh and touch of paint over a few oddments in the bottow of the box to make up the numbers in various units and have a little fun!

 When all added together gave me this little lot.

All in all, a happy bunny.

 

 

Third month of the Old World Army Challenge - Actual Citadel C series Amazons and a few extras

The idea of the challenge is to paint at least ten figures over the course of a month for six months this month I did a few more than ten due to - Annual leave, inclement weather and shear bloody minded-ness to give Mr Beale a run for his money! In fact I actually painted next months entry as well, but I can't show you those until they're shown on the OWAC blog page, sorry.

This month, I'm painting 'C30' series Amazonians from back in the day, originally designed by the Perry twins, produced as a foil to the Slann of Lustria. The first time they were promoted by Citdel/ Games Workshop was in the scenario Rigg's Shrine in the second Citadel Compendium, written by Richard Helliwell.

 

So, let's show you what I've been dabbing paint over.

I'm also going to add a few specialists from other manutacturers as I don't really have that many C series figures and my force needs a little something to provide a little bit of punch - Chariots, via Ral partha, the originals are pulled by human slaves, great for the story, but not much good on the tabletop.  So, I switched them for sabre-toothed tigers from Grenadier, which means they move slightly quicker and have a lot more bite when entering into combat.

The second batch of infantry, a mixed bag of C series tribes women, berserkers and Koka-kalim weilding bows, daggers, swords, bolts-pistols and power swords.

Pygmie skimishers, weilding either bows or short spears/javelins.

Whilst trawling E-bay, I dropped upon this dragon, which I thought would add a little something to this months mix, I'll be honest attaching the wings was a complete pain, but the simply paint job was done in an evening.

Another find on E-bay, advertised as a living statue, thought it'd would make a nice addition to my growing collection, following on with the Rigg's Shrine - I'm of the opinion that this would make a better avatar for the scenario, than the original model. I've used magnets to make the parts inter-changable from a statue on the plinth to avatar.

 As the end of the month draws ever closer, dabed a bit more paint behind the ears of a few more Pilgrims of various manufacture and ages which shows how attitudes to figure design and nakedness as changed!

This months all based, varnished and ready to join their sisters!

My original intention was to take next month off, not because I want a break from painting, but I want to paint and post something else, but following a little banter with Mr Beale I've already painted Apirl's contingent, but you're going to have to wait to see the heroes and wizards.

Preparation for BOYL - Amazons

I've not been posting recently as most of my potential free time has been taken up with preparation for Bring Out Your Lead (BOYL) 2018, for which I'm painting the original C30 series Amazons designed by the Perrys back in the days that they worked for Citadel/Games Workshop featured in the Rigg's Shrine Games in the Second Citadel Compendium and examples of them can be found at the Stuff of Legends here  and here showing Tony Ackland's original sketches and some well painted examples of the figures themselves.

Please find below a selection of pictures of my most recent efforts so far mixed in with their former owners original paintwork, towards taking part in an re-enactment of the Rigg's Shrine game at Foundry in August. Hope you enjoy my efforts?

Too cold to paint!

Well, title pretty much says it all this week, with the UK caught in winters icy grip joined by the remains of hurricane Emma, my conservatory was not the place to be applying paint of any type, until today, that is. So I pulled out a little bit of nostalgia which I think I picked up at BOYL a couple of years ago :- A Citadel import from - Ral Partha White Dragon ES72/01-072 AKA Cold Drake ( http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/wiki/index.php/Dragons_-_Collectors_Guide#Fiend_Factory_.28FF.29_Dragons ), and applied a splattering of colour which I hope you'll appreciate.

Please, forgive the first few pictures in the sequence I bumbled to settings and until I noticed and re-set the camera it was too late to take a step back.

I'm also still playing with the stills video, but this time without the music!
