These soon to be released Space Dwarves by Kev Adams ( of GW Goblin fame) have just been painted and annouced by Asslessman on the Oldhammer Forum. So, if you're into all things squat these will be right up your street.
It's also the case - that I really like Kevin's work (as can be seen from my vast collection of goblins, and he's also a really nice chap, which I can attest to - after being thrust bodily towards him by Orlygg/James at Salute a couple of years ago to engage him in conversation!
Any way, the pictures look really good, so if the miniatures are half as good as his usual stuff you'll be getting yourself some quality.

Hopefully, an enjoyable tale of my endeavors in the world of miniature wargaming, modelling and miniature painting and maybe other hobbies.

Another daubing of paint! ( A steady progression towards a New painted army)
OK, I've kicked off with daubing basic colours to the first twenty to thirty miniatures of my new Thunderbolt Mountain, Wood Elf Army, which is all well and good, but it's not really going to cut it when it comes to the detail of these excellent figures, as it'll be soul destroying to not see any significant progress over time.
So, I've broken them down into smaller groups, based upon the poses and started high-lighting and adding base colours for the detail.
I know my camera skills do neither my painting or these miniatures any favours, but here's a couple of 'close-ups' to give an indication of how things are progressing.
Hope you enjoy the journey.

First coats of many colours
Well obviously, I wasn't going to wait until Christmas to start painting the Wood Elves, so here's their initial preparation, priming (as I'm going to try something different with these miniatures - washers) with white Halfords white primer spray paint.
I've then done a general wash of MP miniature Paint, ration of one paint to two water to get into all crevices and to 'lift all the fine pieces of detail to a level where I might actually see it! Also, there's nothing worse than painting a figure and spotting a small fleck of white which you can do nothing about without touching the surrounding area (I normally use black matt or satin spray paint).
|
As ever my pictures do me or miniatures any credit |
Initial coats of colour |
My intention is to use a broad range of greens & browns, given that there's only three main poses, apply those colours to different parts of the miniature so that there's no uniformity in the way their painted, apart from the colours used.
Hope you enjoy the journey half as much, as I am.

New Arrivals!
Following a sad post on the Oldhammer Forum informing me that Thunderbolt Mountain were going to cease trading. I've been promising myself for years that I'd purchase an army of these beautiful miniatures at some point but I've always borked at the price, well this has been my push to pursue that wish.
So with credit card details in hand - I did the deed and brought myself an early Christmas present, which following another exchange of cash with the excise man - a package arrived yesterday.
Inside the box, safely wrapped in plenty of padding: sixty archers, forty foot, twenty cavalry and a mounted hero type and as a bonus, another twenty armoured foot as I hadn't realized that the cavalry came with dismounted riders and another figures added as a thank you for the order - happy bunny.
Here's a sample picture of a few of the figures - they've a minimal amount of flash, given the detail on these miniatures, but nothing a bit of time with blade and file won't cure.
Until these arrived, I was planning on packing up my painting/work station for Christmas to give a bit of extra room for the festivities, but that plans now on hold - as I've opened the box and the first unit has already been under the knife & file and are heading for their primer coat!
Watch this space, as I'm hoping that I can do these miniatures justice as their everything I was hoping their are - tall, graceful and unique given their rarity this side of the pond!

Can I have too much stuff, I don't need?
Well, today has turned into a day of not doing particularly anything
due to snow which fell over night and continues to fall. So, I find
myself with time to contemplate - never a good thing in my opinion!
So, what do I have to say for myself today and thus, what am I going to write!
I recently read a post on the Oldhammer Forum - that one of it's members had collected over a thousand Orc and Goblin miniatures. To which, I responded with a rather half-hearted - well done, for showing such dedication in collecting so many and how the real work now begins in painting them all. I've also read a recent rant on Mark H's Blog about The Fall of the Oldhammer Empire which has set my mind to contemplating my ever increasing collection and why am I doing this!
Thus, I've found myself looking at my own collection of O&Gs and consider my own purpose in having such a large collection of unpainted miniatures (I also, have in the region of a thousand unpainted O&Gs, I'm sorry to say!), made up of various Pre-slotta C' series, Marauder, Citadel and Asgard etc. most are all "classic" miniatures in their own right, collected over the last thirty plus years. But, I balanced this out in my own mind by the painted O&Gs in my collection, for which - I've been described as having 'more Orcs than Sauron', I jest not.
How did I get to this - simple, over the last thirty years or so I've played a game or two and has the rules and my thoughts on how I wanted to play the game have changed I've added units, put others aside, and not developed ideas as far as I originally intended - thus my collection has grown or I simply liked the miniatures - the Asgards O&G's are some of the best miniatures I'm ever likely to have, but, in my opinion - my style of painting does not suit them - they simply look awful and I'd be embarrassed to put them on the table! So, I keep them - just to admire their design and hope that one day, I might consider my meager talents with a paint brush worthy.
(Apologies, I don't have the reference for the picture)
Now, dear reader you're asking yourself - this is all very self adsorbed and I'd like to be in such a position. Well, consider this, I'm also in the position of having in my possession - other miniature armies which I'd like to develop and play a game or two with. But, to be honest - I'm depressed by the thought of the task, as I have this dark cloud on the horizon of the unpainted O&Gs that am ever likely to get on a table large enough apart from the BIG games at BOYL. Hence, I'm doing nothing with any of it - but moving figures from one box to another as I break the whole into what I think are manageable chunks. So, what I'm say is - Is having too much stuff a good thing?

OK, my previous post have shown you some of what my current painting and long time projects are, with this post I'm going to show you some of my Orc and Goblin Horde. Don't you just love Stuff of Legends website - thanks Orclord/ Richard.
Hope you enjoy the post, next time Goblins

The Swiftest cut!
OK, you've seen the troops, the big hitter and now here's the short, sharp, shock - a unit of seekers of Slannesh again these are designed by Juan Diaz, there are only four basis models within the group so to have a unit any larger the paint work has to be varied to given hint of variety, hence I've changed chopped and changes the same colours across each figure.
Games Workshop currently describe these girls as:- "The Seekers of Slaanesh are the outriders of the daemonic hosts,
Daemonettes who ride upon swift and deadly Steeds. Seekers can cover
vast distances at unbelievable speeds; they are an excellent flanking
force, able to deftly outmanoeuvre almost any foe.
The Steeds are lithe, unsettling creatures with muscular limbs and long, terribly poisonous tongues - it is said a single caress from a Steed's tongue is enough to drive a man into a deathly rapture. The Daemonettes are no less deadly, with lethal claws to slash and slice at their foes." Fits the way I'll be using them pretty well!.
Hope you enjoyed the post

Pictures from various angles |
In different positions |
Just to give an impression of variety |
Particularly like the red bodied Seeker, just breaks uniformity of the unit |
The form and line of the models really give an impress of speed and movement in my opinion. |
These girls are definitely out for blood! |

Seductress Dragon
Here's one of the larger models I've painted over the last couple of years - a Ral Partha model from their Dragon of the month series - The Seductress Dragon, designed by Steve Saunders. Here's a picture of the original packaging, the miniature was painted by Jackie Prow.
The model came in four pieces - the tail, torso and a pair of wings, simply pinned everything together using epoxy resin and sprayed it with a satin black undercoat. Originally, wasn't too sure about how to proceed with the paint work, but was sure I would do some kind of scale pattern on the tail. So, set drawing out the diamonds, took a bit of time to get it how I thought it would look and then just began to build up the colours - yellow and brown on the underside and red across her back. Here's a few pictures of how this all progressed.
After all the work to get the tail looking good, I tried to keep the upper torso as simple as possible, so as not to distract - hence the grey. So, here's the final picture.
Hope you enjoy the post

More daubing of paint
I've since added Nurgle figures to the demon horde and some more Slannesh & Khorne giving me a units of forty, unfortunately I've not finished their bases, as I'm wait to finish more so I get a consist look across the army.
Changed the colour scheme slightly - green torso rather than blue etc etc. will gradually change the entire scheme every time I move on to the next batch - maybe yellow next time. Anyway, enjoy.

The laughing boys - Nurgle join the crew! |
A mixed bunch of Bloodletters & Deamonettes! |
A daemonette, shows the resin to best effect. |
All together now - charge! |
A Long Term Project - My Deamon Horde
A Citadel 'C34' series Demon |
Daemonettes of Slaanesh by Juan Diaz, really hit the Slannesh vibe for me |
I started with a Nurgle theme, so added epoxy resin to the bases weapons and let it run to form drips and pool, which I've painted to give a putrid look. |
Original Bloodletters by Alan Perry, I know their simple poses are limiting, but I hope from this picture you can see they can look dramatic. |

Recent additions to the Chaos Horde!
A couple of weekends ago I attended Warfare 2017 (WAR's annual wargames fair, held at the the Rivermead Centre, Reading), one of the largest such events in the UK, with a high proportion of competitive wargames playing anything from WRG sixth ed. to 40K and anything in between. I would have like to have been taking part in any one of these, but unfortunately commitments elsewhere meant I could only attend for a few hours, which basically meant shopping for new toys and a swift chat to anybody I might know.
I arrived at the venue t about 10am on Sunday morning to find that all the parking machines weren't working apart from one! After queuing for ten to fifteen minutes I found a helpful young man willing to book my car into the parking area for a small fee! I continued to queue for a few minutes more, having a Scot for a father and born of a Yorkshire lass - I don't part with my money that easily.
Inside, my first port of call was the Bring and buy, there were bargains to be had, but nothing really grab my attention, so I begin my trawl of the main hall - all the favorites were there - The Perrys, Essex etc. etc. One particular manufacturer caught my eye - Aventine Miniatures , after a chat with the stall holder making appreciative noises about their miniature and painting of their display models I received a couple of useful tutorials on they achieve such fine figures and finishes, and with their details firmly locked in my head - I continue my travels around the venue, slowly made my way to the main gaming hall (I only held off making a serious purchase because I'd just ordered a sizeable force from Thunderbolt Miniatures in the States, because their closing their on-line store on the 25th; so be quick, I've been humming and arhing for the last few years about making such a purchase and this news made me make the leap! I say again - I don't part with my pennies easily. But, I've long admired Tom Meiers work - more on this purchase, when they arrive). This is where I spent the best part of the morning and early afternoon catching up with old friends and opponents - discussing life, tactics and figures.
Realising the day was slipping away from me and I'd not brought anything, I made my way back to the B&B and found a couple of small units of Chaos beastmen which I purchased, these will join my growing horde of devotees, and a curiosity - I don't know the miniature, but under close inspection there are a few fine details I can appreciate - the decapitated head, inserted fangs and long legs! It'll more than likely end up taking a bath at some point to then spend a year or two waiting to be painted before it also joins the horde! But for now I can appreciate it for what it is - a whim!
Enjoy
